Are you Stuck in a negative ‘holding pattern’?

Many, many years ago, I learned a powerful tool for releasing negative habits, thought patterns and self-sabotaging behavior. It’s called an ‘Energy Mantra’ and it was taught to a group of us by a crusty old woman with a raspy voice, a cigarette hanging from the side of her mouth and a gruff, No-BS attitude. Refusing to confuse the messenger with the message, we listened, practiced, and watched our lives transform from boxed-in limitation to greater and greater possibilities.

When Affirmations Don’t Work

The next time you’re feeling ‘stuck’ – maybe its a negative thought pattern, a crappy relationship, a sense of impossibility about something you’re really wanting for your life, or even a health concern – and affirmations, gratitude or distraction aren’t working, then it’s time to give the Energy Mantra a try. The Energy Mantra can help you release negativity around any subject. This, in turn, will free up energy for you to explore new ways of solving a problem, or simply moving more powerfully in the world.

The Secret

What’s the ‘secret’ to the Energy Mantra? It’s about embracing rather than resisting. It’s about accepting rather than denying, AND … It’s about appreciating rather than resenting. Curious? Okay then, let’s give it a try …

Naming has Power

Let’s say you’re struggling with money woes, or a chronic health condition or an unsupportive work environment. What you want to do is come up with a ‘name’ to describe the part of you experiencing this. Naming has power, so naming is step 1. Like this:

  • Money woes could be “The worried One” or “The Impoverished One”
  • Health Concern could be “The Constantly Sick One” or “The Sickly One” or “The Cancer Patient”
  • A bad work environment could be: “The Harassed Employee” or the Unhappy Worker Bee”

Once you’ve got an accurage name – a name that triggers the negative feelings associated with the problem – you insert it into the mantra and go through the process like this …

The Energy Mantra

“I embrace the Mind of the [Insert Name Here]. S/He has nothing to do with who I am, but S/He has served me well. S/He has ….

Now here is where you do the WORK. Spend as much time as you need to coming up with as many things as you can think of about how this mindset has served you. By doing this, you’re forced to look at the situation in a different way. More importantly, you finally acknowledge some aspect of your personality that has been perpetuating the problem, thinking it’s helping you.

A lot of folks get stuck here. After all, how could keeping yourself sick or broke or unhappy possibly ‘serve’ you? … Stick with me here, it’ll make sense in a minute …

Maybe the bad work situation has served you by helping you clarify what you don’t want. Maybe it’s helped reveal a childhood pattern of feeling unappreciated – a pattern you’re now, thanks to the clarity, ready to let go. Maybe dis-ease has helped you gain a deeper appreciation of your body and how good it feels when you feel good. Maybe it’s helped you recognize how precious life is and how important it is to express your love to others. Maybe a chronically empty wallet has given you some very creative resources for everything from fixing your car to prepping a feast.

If you stick with this beyond the initial resistance you may feel, you’ll be surprised at how many things you can find to appreciate about the mindset that you thought was your nemesis.

The Release

Once you’ve truly scoured your mind and heart for every way this Mindset has served you, it’s time to let it go. Here is where you say the following ….
“I now send [Insert Mindset Here] back to source and release Her/Him from EVERYWHERE S/He is stored within me. Thank you. I AM FREE TO LIVE.”

What Mindset are you ready to embrace and then return to Source? Give it a try and let me know your experience in the comments below!

Many blessings!
