Let’s call it like it is – moms rule. They are often the most crucial cog in the ‘family machine.’ When mom is sick, it’s like everything grinds to a halt.
Why? Because, as cliché as it sounds, mom often seems to be the one who makes the house a home. She’s many people rolled into one. She makes sure the kids are safe and clean, prepares delicious, healthy meals, chauffers the kids to school and activities, and so much more.
Mom doesn’t deserve applause–she deserves a standing ovation. She also deserves some quality alone time, and that’s what brings us here today. Even superheroes need to charge their batteries.
Now and then, a mom finds a window of time, and it’s crucial for her physical, mental and emotional health that she takes advantage of that time in the best way possible.
So, dear moms, if you have the time, we have the ideas, so listen up and take us up on these fantastic ‘offers.’
Chase a Dream
The word ‘relaxing’ often entails a very narrow notion. Some people don’t consider a bubble bath relaxing. We’re all ‘wired’ differently and hence have different ideas of what constitutes relaxing. If you’re a mom who is always on the go and likes it that way, your way of relaxing might entail something completely different.
For instance, if you have a love and a knack for writing, why not start a blog? It would be something that’s just yours, your little piece of cyber sanctuary.
You could write about anything – parenting, books, beauty, fashion, home décor, finances, technology – whatever you’re good at, whatever drives you.
Use your free time to take up a hobby. Learn about photography, share tips on things you’re an expert on. There is always room in the blogosphere for one more amazing person with a unique voice. This just might be the perfect way for you to distance yourself from everything and do a thing that’s just yours.
When the Window is Big…
You have several hours all to yourself. Dad has taken the kids off your hands for the day, and now you’re sitting around the house, thinking what to do. You have hours and hours to yourself. You need to get dressed up and treat yourself.
Motherhood can be taxing and stressful, and you need to unwind the best way – a spa day. There are tons of incredible spa treatments to choose from, and thanks to the wonders of the Digital Age you can book a session of your choice with a few clicks. Some massages will take all the stress off your shoulders and wonderful facials that will replenish and rejuvenate your skin.
Once you’re done enjoying your time in the oasis of peace and pampering, you’ll be recharged and ready for whatever comes your way.
When the Window is Smaller…
Did you know that meditation comes with no less than 76 scientifically proven benefits on your overall mental, physical and emotional health?
It takes no more than 20 minutes, and it can change your life. You will become less stressed, more focused and more energized. Your mood will become immensely better, and you’ll be able to tackle anything life, and motherhood throws at you with newfound serenity and strength.
We could all benefit from these twenty minutes of uninterrupted peace, just connecting with ourselves. If you don’t know how to begin, as a true meditative state isn’t easy to achieve, there are apps to guide you through it and trust us, once you take up meditation, you’ll never look back.
If you take up yoga as well, you will find lifelong balance, happiness and serenity as meditation and yoga go hand in hand. You can always carve out at least thirty minutes for the mat, so instead of spending that time on chores, work on your self-growth and peace.
The Avid Reader
Books are back! Yes, books are finally back in ‘style.’ Still, if you’re an avid and passionate reader, you don’t even care about trends, you just care about books. Yes, you’ve read dozens of parenting books, but now it’s time to indulge in some of the classics or new releases from your favorite genres.
Get dressed up, go to your favorite bookshop and pick up no less than five titles you’ve been dying to get your hands on. Perhaps you won’t have the time to finish a book in one sitting, but when you know you have them, you’ll know exactly what to do when you get even the smallest window of opportunity.
Many would say that you should get a new wardrobe, get your hair cut or take a bubble bath. These, however, aren’t luxuries, they’re necessities, and you should get to ‘indulge’ in them anyway.
The real relaxing comes when you do something you truly love, not something that’s just a matter of looking presentable. So, make sure you claim your necessities, and then claim the time for the things you consider to be real ‘me time.’
