It’s happened to most people, at least once.

You have a dream. You may dismiss it or find it funny but a day or week pass by, and you find the exact dream playing out before your eyes in real life.

Freaky stuff? Or is it just the laws of physics working itself out?

You may dismiss some of these dreams as mere coincidences, but some are so accurate and improbable that you cannot help but wonder if the true nature of time and your mind are closely coupled.

To dive deeper into the mechanics of our dreams, we looked Dr. Eric Amidi’s(a Particle Physicist and a Certified Hypnotist) fascinating overview of the Collage Theory of Time.

Dr. Eric Amidi explains that physics has made great strides in explaining the nature of time measurement. However, the nature of time itself remains quite a mystery to science. In fact, one of the reasons that quantum mechanics and Einstein’s theory of gravity cannot be unified is that science does not yet have a firm understanding of time.

So why is time so omnipresent that you can feel it everywhere you go, and yet it’s so elusive that you cannot put your finger on it and explain what it is?

Could it be because it’s within you? Could it be because it has its roots in your psyche and not the world out there?

Can Our Dreams Explain Time?

According to Dr. Eric Amidi, the events and happenings are only snapshots of our lives. A “collage” if you will, and in no particular order.

Imagine that all the things that have happened and will happen in your life are laid out in a collage of snapshot pictures on a wall–but you can see only a small portion of this wall due to the limited capacity of your conscious mind.

In your waking life, your logical conscious mind constantly grabs these snapshots and puts them in a logical order, one after the other. This is what you perceive as being the passing of time.

However, Dr. Eric Amidi’s Collage Theory Of Time also explains that while you dream or are in deep meditation, your logical conscious mind shuts down. This may allow you to see beyond now and into the future. Your conscious mind is no longer able to categorize the events of your life into a logical order.

Conscious mind out of the way, you get a chance to have a glimpse at the events of your life that would be considered as your future in your waking life…
–Dr. Eric Amidi

When you relax and shut down your logical mind, you may be able to open your mind to a sense of what’s coming and glimpse the whole collage on the wall.

The deeper the relaxation, the less present your conscious mind is. Therefore, the less able it is to put the events of your life in time order, allowing you to get a broader glimpse of the collage of events in your life, some from your future.

Pretty cool, right?

It’s an interesting take on why some of our dreams come true. Who knows what else our consciousness and subconsciousness mind are capable of?

I think dreams are showing us a possible future we have for ourselves, or maybe in a different a glimpse into different worlds. I am a lucid dreamer, and i have had some amazing dreams but i have also had some pretty dreadful ones to. When I am lucid, I have been able to take into account everything around me and just absorb it in. I have seen futuristic cars and can re-live past events. I have asked to speak to God and I have flown through out outer space. Are dreams are whatever we can make from them. It shows you what you are putting your focus on, and if you are that spot on that it actually happens to you in a day or a week, you know you are staying focused on the path that you are on. I love this article, I would love to see more like them. A lot of people are interested in the dream world because it is magical and full of possibilities. Maybe we should look at our waking life the same way. Where would we be without dreaming?

It is literally impossible for a dream not to come true. Not coming true is the nonexistence of coming true and as such does not exist.

What keeps people from more joy and vibrating at a higher frequency? Vain imaginations, images of no value, perceptions of nonexistence, that manifest as worry, fear, anxiety, bitterness.

What keeps people from peace and greater joy? Thoughts of not having this and not having that. Not being able to do something or other. Never achieving their goals.

All images of no value, perceptions of nonexistence. Money is a value. Having money is a value. Not having enough money is a nonvalue and a perception of nonexistence, the nonexistence of having. Not having money, not having enough money is the nonexistence of having and does not exist and is not real. Not having does not exist and can only be perceived and then potentially experienced. Reacting to that perception of nonexistence gives it a kind of life.

The essence of insanity is perceiving what isn?t there and then reacting to that perception as though it were real. Accepting what isn?t as reality is the basis for mistakes and failure. Accepting perceptions of nonexistence as real and basing one? thoughts, feelings or actions them will result in worry, fear, anxiety, bitterness. And will cause you to vibrate at a lower frequency.

We live in a world increasingly focused on, obsessed with worried about and at war against the nonexistent. And this insanity is pushing us to the brink of economic and social collapse. Is it not obvious that a life, or economic policy, built on perceptions of nothingness is unsustainable and headed for disaster?

  • Tai says:

So is there a reason why you only describe 'seeing' the future in the collage and not the past? Even the far distant past?

    Hi Eric,

The way you have explained is wonderful that why dreams do come true some times. The example of telling our live events as snap shots is just wonderful.

Thank you for your article and insight to the possible reasons why we can dream sometimes future events. Like many I have glimpses of the future in dreams that have come to be. I have also had a couple of them be so complete and accurate, that I am actually thinking the exact same thing I was thinking during my dream. This component of the dream is the one I feel makes it a special dream, usually when I am aware of my thoughts during a dream, this dream eventually will unfold in my waking reality.
My question is since our minds are so powerful and can either make or create depending on our choice of source (Ego or God), do we have the ability to change what we see in our dreams, can we alter time and make a different choice with a different outcome. I would like to believe we can, and I would love to hear your opinion about this.

I had a dream of a woman surrounded in white light with long beautiful red hair holding my infant daughter and walking away. when i yelled for her to bring my daughter back she peacefully told me, ''Wake up and say goodbye it's time for me to take her home.'' I immediately woke up to find my 2 month old daughter not breathing and blue. She has been with God since.
That was ten years ago. I still don't like my dreams today.

    • Christina S. says:

Tausha, I know how you feel. 13 yrs ago I was trying to sleep when suddenly I saw an image of my father in a casket. I kept hearing the words in my head to call home. I had been estranged from my family & had not spoken to them at that time for about 3 months-Before that my family always said he was doing fine. However that night, I called home immediately & my mom answered & confirmed my fear. "Your father is dying-The Drs. say he has about a week" My dad died a few days later. :(

About 2 months ago, I had this dream of my mother's teeth falling out. It upset me because I recalled it being said this meant the approaching death of that person. It was not long after that my mother landed up in the hospital's E.R. I was terrified of losing her too! I spoke to the hospital chaplain & sheepishly told him about my dreams because I was too ashamed to talk to my elders at my place of worship-I grew up a Jehovah Witness mind you…so you can imagine how freaked out I was about my dreams! I told this Chaplain that I was even ashamed to approach him but more so about approaching "these elders". He told me that it was not his place to judge me but to listen. So I told him about my dreams & fears & he told me that he was a Christian & that he believed in the gifts of the spirit & told me he truly believed this was a gift & not to view it as a curse. "Just think", he said, "you have the opportunity to be warned when someone is getting ready to leave you & to be able to say goodbye to them!"

Well the chilling thing about this 2nd dream was that about a month and a 1/2 after I had this dream, I got this heartbreaking phone call about my brother-that his cancer had returned. He was doing so great we thought the cancer was gone and boom-one day he unexpectedly had a seizure and was given a week to live-he died 5 days later… I cannot began to tell you how devastated I am to have lost him. I lost him just recently too. He was like a father to me. We are 20 yrs apart and he became like a father to me when my died dad, so it was like losing my dad twice!! It is so difficult to lose a loved one, because for me in particular-now I truly question what really happens when we die-will we be with that person again?

But I was confused though…that dream I had seeing my mother's teeth falling out-Did I dream of the wrong person or was she next? The other day I found this Dream Dictionary that I had acquired from a Metaphysical Church. I had misplaced and forgotten about! (I hid it from my family & forgot about it when I brought it home) I opened it up to the topic of what it means to see another person's teeth falling out in a dream; The first sentence said…"To see (dream) another person losing teeth is a symbol of approaching death for the one seen, OR A RELATIVE OF THE ONE SEEN." My brother! Though I hate having such dreams and dread the thought of losing a loved one, I am comforted by this thought: If insignificant me is capable of doing this-this tells me that there must be something so much bigger than me or phenomenal going on in the Universe that I am not aware of! With this thought in mine-I have a suspicion I will see all my loved ones again whom I have lost in this life!

Sincerely and with Best Regards, <3

I used to believe that dreams were a way for the subconscious mind to give insight to the situations, fears and feelings we may not wish to deal with when we are awake. But that didn't explain dreaming about locations that I'd never been to and people I've never met in times that I didn't exist. So now, I view dreaming as a doorway to pass through to a place that enlightens my existence for all time…there is no here and now, everything exists simultaneously…

Great article . In my experience , there are different categories of dreams. They depend on different things and can be serious , sacred ,silly , dumb or just plain fun . LOL. I just ryhmed . I've kept a dream journal for 15 years plus . In '96 I wrote down a very lucid dream to say the least that in 2004 came to pass. I didn't really need to write it since I remember it anyway. Again I wrote another dream interviewing people traveling all over the world and some just going back home . Very nice people. That morning I watched the news of a plane that had crashed. I suspect we all know more than we let on. I think it's high time we all let go of past conditioning and hurt so we can move on and up so to speak. BTW , these are just some my experiences and opinions no more no less. take them with a grain of salt.

Twice in my life I have dreaned a day, event by event during the evening and a couple of days or months later I knew what the day would bring, event by event.

Most recently I went into my bathroom after meditation and bang! I was in a bathroom in Chile, where I had spent time several years ago.I told my wife about the feeling. A week later my boss calls me on the phone and says that they may want me to go to Chile. Hasn't happened yet and may not, but I find it amazing that while the decisions were being made I was somehow aware of the process.

I have had "bad" dreams, good dreams and so so dreams. All of them fascinate me to no end.

Lucid dreaming kind of puts a kink in the idea that a collage of snapshots of our future lives, by way of control. If we can see the future through a dream could we change the collage through the same dream and thereby change our future?
I know the dreams you speak of and would propose them to be closer to the ideal life expectancy based on how well you interact with people and what you hope to aspire to before you die. Those snapshots are places you want to be and have the power to go; you may end up there or you can choose to go somewhere else but… that WAS the dream…

    Hi
I was wondering if someone could give me some insight into what is happening with me.
I have been having dreams of random everyday things and after about two weeks they all started coming true. When i am in the situation of the dream being reality I start to feel a feeling of dread and sickness mixed with deja vu it is very intense and sometimes makes me black out for a second or two. Then it just passes and another will happen again anything from 30mins to a day or two later. When it starts to happen i can say excatly what is going to happen next and the feelings build and build and get more intense. Sometimes I feel like i am going to throw up or pass out. But the worst that happens is that i blck out for a couple seconds. Then it will just stop for a year or two and start happening again.
    Any idea????

Great website! I think there are many valuable information and advices here. Along the same line, I came across the following website which I found interesting. Traditionally, personality tests such as MBTI have been used as career aptitude test. However, these tests have a very limited scope as they ignore many important factors such as person's skills, values, and interests.

There have been many advancements in the area of career aptitude testing. Usage of artificial intelligence to evaluate suitability of a job for a person is one of the these techniques. You can take a complete version of the MBTI personality test plus many others such as memory, IQ, problem solving, and patience tests in OptYourLife. This website's expert system tries to find the most suitable career path for you using neural network. I have several really awful dreams come true. I have always woken from these dreams feeling dire but somehow feeling I know this is going to happen. I dreamt of my fathers death in amazing detail even dreaming what shirt my then college teacher was wearing on my return and a photograph I noticed on a desk (had not previously been in his office)

I also dreamt about an ambulance stopping with blue lights flashing I could see it was a friend who had no reported health problems, the next day she had a stroke and was rushed to hospital. I once dreamt the winner of a horserace.
The most bizarre dream was the night before I was due to run a treasure map at a Christmas Fayre. In the dream a man I didnt know came up to me and said I am going to get in your head. Something frightened me about his eyes, he chose the correct position. The next day I looked up and saw this man stood there, I began to shake ……guess what he used those same words and picked the correct spot. I was left shaking, I must have gone pale for he asked whether I was ok as I looked like I had seen a ghost.
