When you are a child, you tend to think about your future career a lot. You imagine yourself as a famous football player, a cool astronaut, or an elegant businesswoman.

As we grow older, our wishes change, and we start making career choices which will keep us financially secure. However, in the process, we forget about the most important aspect: finding a career that will enrich our soul and bring genuine happiness.

If you are undecided, here are some career options that will feed your soul.

1. Veterinarian

Any medical career will make you feel content and proud; there is no doubt about it. But, besides choosing to help people as a doctor, another possible option could be to become something in the veterinarian profession. There are many aspects of this job you can pick according to your wishes.

A veterinarian, of course, treats animals and performs procedures when needed. You can be working in a private office or a state one, which is your personal preference. Sometimes veterinarians do field work as well, and it is often in the countryside or farms. Calving cows and foaling in horses, which is quite complicated, are just some of the many tasks you will be doing.

Imagine the look on a person’s face when you save their cat, dog, or hamster. It is reason enough to love your job and go to work content every day. Another benefit is that you get to spend time with animals, which is relaxing and heartwarming on its own.

2. Special education teacher

Children with special needs are often rejected from their peers and put in classes where they may or may not make progress. Being a teacher is fulfilling enough, but think about how you would feel if you are helping someone.

Teaching them to read, make clay vases or draw may sound like a tedious job, but you will be helping their brains develop and make them feel accomplished. Their smiles and thank you notes will be a reward enough.

3. Care and support

There are many career options in the care and support sphere. Personal or health care, help with chores or paying bills are just some aspect of the profession.

For example, being a support worker includes helping the elderly with daily activities, offering assistance in taking medications or walking and bringing food and other necessary supplies. The cases you will have to see, and situations you will witness might sometimes be challenging and heartbreaking, but the positive effects of your work will make a difference.

Many people you are helping are left alone and unable to take care of themselves, and it is nice to know they still have someone even if it is just to talk to and see during the day.

4. Therapist

In today’s day and age, people suffer from stress, depression, and anxiety more than ever. With the increasing awareness being raised about mental illnesses of any kind, people have started to reach out for help more often, feeling no shame or fear. The need for therapists has thus definitely increased.

As a therapist, you will spend your days listening to somebody’s stories and problems. It may seem overwhelming, but the fact is you can learn a lot. Besides learning from each patient, you will make them feel less alone in the world. Many hesitate to ask for help from their friends and family, and you will be there in their time of need.

However, gloomy the topic is, much of your job will, in essence, be suicide prevention. Saving a life literally or saving somebody’s soul is rewarding enough, and seeing a person become happy and cheerful again will make you never want to stop doing it.

5. Forester

If you like nature and want to help with conservation, this is the job for you. Besides planting trees, a part of the job is keeping protected areas safe. You will contribute to stopping hunting activities, thus saving many animals or even endangered species.

By doing this job, you will help the society, not on a personal level, but a global one, by saving and proving them enough greenery in the future to enjoy. However, enjoyment is not the only aspect of it, as trees and forests do a lot for keeping our environment healthy. By giving oxygen and taking harmful gases, the trees are already doing their part, and yours will be to create conditions for them to do that. So, for anyone who is a loner and a nature enthusiast, there is no better career choice.

If you are searching for meaning in life and want to make a difference, consider some of these careers. There is no better feeling than the gratitude of others for something you’ve helped them with, and that is something you will always feel. Years spent on these jobs will make you patient, thankful, and generous, and there is no better way to spend your life than that.
