Are you currently in a place where things are not working out for you?

Where no matter how hard you try, no matter how many goals you set, it just doesn’t seem to happen.

Well, there could be a very good reason for that. In order to fulfil your potential, have a better life, improve your health, your wealth, your relationships, you have to be in alignment with what’s going on in your heart as well as your mind.

Let me explain. Up until the age of seven we are like little sponges. We take in all sorts of stuff, ideas and beliefs around money, our health, weight and relationships. We take these in from our parents, siblings, friends, teachers, even our environment and at that age we have no way of sifting truth from fiction.

Listen, your parents did the best for you with the best possible intentions but there could be all sorts of beliefs you now hold that no longer serve you. Telling a child to look before crossing the road is a sensible belief that will serve you forever because if you don’t it could have dire consequences. However, if you were told not to talk to strangers that makes perfect sense for a 7-year-old — but as an adult, it could lead you to being shy so all sorts of relationships could be difficult for you.

So what I’m saying is that you could have all sorts of beliefs that no longer serve you and no matter how hard you try, and if you don’t get rid of those thoughts and ideas you will always hinder your progress to a better life.

Here are 5 simple steps to help you reach your full potential:

1. Get rid of those limiting beliefs.

Of course you have to know what they are first and the best way of doing that is write down all the things you heard as a child about money, health, people. If you’re parents always said “money doesn’t grow on trees”, or “rich people are lucky”, or “you have to work hard for your money” or anything like that then if you want to improve your income those beliefs are not serving you.

You might not even be fully aware of them and that is why I say write them down because awareness is the first step.

You can’t get rid of something if you don’t know what it is right? And the best way of getting rid of them is first naming them.

2. Love yourself.

When you love yourself everything in your life works out. I’ve been there and done it, I’ve seen the amazing results something so ‘simple’ as loving yourself can achieve. Think about it.

If you love yourself you don’t eat what’s not good for your body, you don’t surround yourself with people who don’t love and support you, people who are negative will drain you. Loving yourself is simple but it’s not necessarily easy.

We have a thing in our brain like a thermostat. You know how a thermostat works, right? You set the room temperature to say 70 degrees and the thermostat’s job is to keep the temperature steady at 70 degrees.

However, if someone comes into the room and opens the window and its cold outside, the temperature will fall and the thermostat will work really hard to bring the temperature of the room back up to 70 degrees. If when the window is opened and it’s hot outside, the room will get hot and thermostat will work hard to bring the temperature in the room back down to 70 degrees.

Well, the job of the thermostat in your brain is to keep you in the comfort zone.  I’m sure you’ve heard of the comfort zone. It’s the place where life is ‘comfortable’, no matter how horrid or awful or plain miserable because you like having things around you that make you comfortable so better to stay where you are than be uncomfortable.  Life will continue to go on and you’ll achieve nothing.

So if you’re working towards making a better income and your limiting beliefs are around lack rather than abundance you will never make more money.  The thermostat will keep bringing you back to your comfort zone.

The way to change that is really very simple.  You have to override the thermostat. You can start slowly. Every morning when you wake up say “today is a glorious day, I choose to make it so” how powerful is that? Choosing to have a good day and not just a good day but a glorious one.

There is so much power in the words we use. The mind has no scale of reference. What you tell yourself, what you think, your mind will believes and acts upon.

From the moment you get up, you have to set yourself up for a great day. Keep saying it over and over and here’s something you can add to it.  “I love and accept myself exactly as I am”.  Now that really is powerful.  When you love yourself everything in your life will work out.

What you’re doing with this is not just believing in better but affirming that you deserve, you are worthy and when you do that you’re showing the Universe that you’re ready for the good stuff to start rolling in.

What will happen is that by saying this ‘mantra’ every single day, over and over and over, you will be putting into your mind that you deserve the very best. If you’re currently in any situation which is not serving you, where you’re not happy whether it’s in the work place, at home, with a loved one, a colleague what you will find that by saying those few words every single day life will start changing by itself and it will feel like magic.

So, you’ve discovered your limiting beliefs. You’re affirming every day that life is good and you love and accept yourself, what’s next?

3. Practice gratitude.

When you’re grateful for everything in your life it gives the Universe permission to bring you more good stuff.

Doesn’t it make sense that if you’re saying every day that it’s going to be a great day and that you love and accept yourself that you will start feeling great. And the more you feel great, the more good will come into your life.  So be thankful for everything.

Be thankful for the roof over your head and the food on the table. Give thanks for the hot water for the shower in the morning and your job which brings you an increasing income. It’s quite amazing how this will make you feel.

Your first job in being grateful is to buy a very special journal, because this is after all a very special step.  Each night before you go to sleep find at least Five things to be grateful for.  There is a special formula that you need to write.  “I am thankful for…” and then you list what it is and why and then you end with thank you, thank you, thank you. There is a special significance in the number three, and it really does work.

For instance you could say I am thankful for the wonderful day I’ve just had, the delicious dinner and my loving family round the table.  It’s so good to have everybody together and that they’re healthy and happy. Thank you thank you thank you.

You could say I am thankful for this wonderful bed which gives me a great night’s sleep. Thank you thank you thank you.

I am thankful for my body, my happy healthy body.  My limbs and organs are working perfectly.  I feel so good.  Thank you thank you thank you.

What this will do as well it will ensure you go to sleep with a smile on your face and you will sleep very well.

4. Believe in yourself.

When you’re being grateful for all you have in your life, when you’re saying every day what a wonderful day it is and how you love and accept yourself you will already be ‘putting it out there’ that you believe in better. You have to believe first and then it will appear   If you say “I’ll believe it when I see it” the Universe will say ok then forget it.

You just have to change that around.  The world is an abundant place and it’s all there for the asking. By believing first it will show up.

5. Take action.

And finally the last step has to be taking action. When you have a goal and you take action towards it, while at the same time losing the emotion to the outcome, it will happen.  Sometimes not quite the way you anticipated but it will show up.  When you’ve got your goal say “this or something better is now showing up for me”.

The thing is that the Universe is a bit like a Satnav, you put the destination in (your goal) and then you let it take you the way it thinks best, not the way you think best!

Just go along for the ride, enjoy the journey because that’s half the fun.  If you’re too focused on the destination you’ll miss all sorts of fun along the way.

Zig Zigler said, “motivation is like bathing: you need to do it every day for it to be effective.”

With these steps as long as you do them every single day, the telling yourself it’s going to be a great day, loving and accepting yourself exactly as you are, being grateful for all you already have and finally taking action towards your goal, you will find how much fun life can be.
