Now is your time, my friends, to totally transform all you have done, been and had. Now is your time to move from fear to love. I can tell you it’s because it’s 2012, or maybe it’s because human consciousness is on the brink of evolution. I could even tell you (although it would be a fear-based motive) that if we want to save our sweet behinds, it’s a necessity. All of these reasons would be true. But the most powerful reason I have to give you, for why NOW is the time to choose LOVE over FEAR, is because if you’re reading this, then YOU are a leader of change. Yep, lil’ ole you ;)
The Vibration of Fear
Some folks say that the opposite of Love is Hate. But I say nay, for underlying the feeling of hate (and all other negative emotions, for that matter) is the vibration of fear. This vibration stems from a consciousness founded on separation and duality – a consciousness we are, indeed, evolving beyond. But this “separation anxiety” has caused us a whole lotta grief – and for far too long.
For it is the belief that I am separate from you, that gives rise to fear in the first place: fear that you will reject me; fear that you might harm me; fear that if you disagree with me I might be less in your eyes or banished from your heart.
And of course we know that, through these seemingly childish fears, we humans have come up with some insane – yes, insane “Solutions”. You know, the usual suspects: war, violence and all the “isms”.
The Vibration of Love
Now the vibration of love, on the other hand, is a whole other ball of wax. Unconditional, heart-felt LOVE (of any size or magnitude) stems from a vibration of unity. All of our wisest, greatest teachers who’ve walked our Earth have, in one way or another, shared a message of unity and love. It’s come across differently, due to varied times, cultures and circumstances, but the essence remains the same.
To quote one of them: “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, that you do unto me.”
For when we look upon another with the eyes of love, we somehow connect (even if for an instant), with the unity of all life. And when we live our lives – as much as possible – from this space of unity consciousness, we know that to harm another (in word or deed) is to harm self.
So I have an invitation for each of you who read this. But you’ll need a little courage :) …
I want to invite you to call into your mind a person who has harmed you (friends, family, lovers, former heads of State, despots and political liars – no one is judging!)
For some, I know this may be very, very painful. But just try. Okay, once you have this person in your mind, I want you to drop your attention down into your Heart Chakra area. Bring all your attention here and observe how you are feeling. Do you feel a quiver, are you shaking or is another sensation bubbling? What emotions rise? Just notice and allow the space for these feelings (both physical and emotional) to simply BE. No need to judge – only witness.
When you are ready, ask those feelings what they need. This could be to curl up in a ball, to scream or rip up pieces of paper. It could be simply that the feelings needed only to be witnessed and honored. Then if you can, give the feelings what they want (umm, sorry, taking action on the desire for revenge isn’t an option but acknowledging the desire for revenge certainly is).
After attending to your feelings and really giving them – to the best of your ability, without harming self or others – what they need, bring your attention back to the person. Ask yourself this:
“Is it possible that this person, somewhere inside, some when in time, felt as much pain, vulnerability and hurt as I experienced at their hands?” Ask with your full attention. Your full being. And then, when you’re ready, bring your attention back to your heart.
Identify the Unity
Now comes the opportunity to really progress on the scale from fear to love! As you tune back into your heart center, notice if the feelings have changed. Notice if there is even a slight shift toward ease or acceptance or compassionate understanding for the pain of the past.
Sit with this for as long as you need before taking a deep breath (actually, it’s a good idea to keep your breath full and steady throughout the process!). When you feel some shift, take a moment to honor and acknowledge and express appreciation for yourself. This, my dear friend, is BIG work. Yeah sure, it may sound all warm-n-fuzzy and bunnies and unicorns, but I’m telling you true, this stuff works!
