Pluto's RetrogradeJust as the moon’s movements throughout the month impact Earth, the planets also go through periods of change as they swing around the Universe, sometimes sending ripple effects all the way down to us mere earthlings.

Therefore, with today marking the start of Pluto’s inward spin as it goes into a period of retrograde until September 20th, we wanted to see what it has in store for us, and how we can benefit from this period of transition.

What Happens When Pluto is in Retrograde?

While Pluto may have recently been downgraded from planet status, forming a new group called “dwarf planets”, the effects of its retrograde should not be underestimated – as they prompt us to reflect inwards, sometimes triggering us to change the direction of our lives in radical ways.

Unlike the retrograde of its bigger brother, Mercury, (where travel plans seem to be thrown into chaos and technology starts to break for no apparent reason), Pluto’s retrograde is much less dramatic – bringing about a needed period of reflection.

On the flipside, it can also spell the end of relationships, and leave us feeling “blocked” by people who have control over us, such as those in the workplace. It may be a time where we encounter harshness, or even cruelty. But these outcomes often work in our favor as they push us to make needed changes.

Our financial status may also come under an unflattering review, but again, while we may not like what we see, we’re given the opportunity to assess our lives more honestly and decide which steps we need to take next.

How Can We Benefit from Pluto’s Backward Spin?

With Pluto’s retrograde sending us into a reflective period where we psychoanalyze many aspects of our lives, some of our attitudes and patterns will also begin to change, as we get more in touch with our heart’s true desires and subconscious.

Some of these changes include:

1) Improvements to Mental and Physical Health

If you’ve been feeling low lately, or even depressed, during this contemplative period you’ll be ready to address the root causes of your problems and be looking for ways to remove the dark shadow surrounding your mood.

It is also said that those who were born while Pluto’s been in retrograde, will have an increased ability to overcome illnesses during this time, particularly those caused by psychological issues.

2) Shines New Light Onto Relationships

Pluto’s knack for bringing out the truth may give you the gentle nudge needed to assess whether you’re getting the most out of your relationships. While the outcome of digging deep may be difficult to address at first, Pluto’s cleansing power will breathe new life into your psyche, providing the encouragement needed to start fresh.

3) Greater Insights Into the Subconscious

Given the intensity of Pluto’s retrograde, it provides heightened insights into the subconscious – presenting an opportunity to take stock of your life and measure it up against what it is that you really want.

As a result of this increases awareness, you may also find yourself being more suspicious of people; leaving you to question their motives to see if they really do have your best interests at heart.

4) Cleansing of the Mind, Body and Soul

As a result of our increased awareness during Pluto’s transit, you’ll be more in tune with the whispers of your soul and will want to let go of any old patterns or beliefs that are no longer serving you, including rigid emotions, negative attitudes and insecurities.

You’ll also be on the lookout for any behaviors that cause you to feel out of control or vulnerable – making it a great time to take control of professional and financial matters.

As you start to cleanse your mind and soul, you’ll also feel the urge to clean out your house, throwing away any clutter and old clothes, in addition to cleansing your body by starting detoxifying diets to release harmful toxins.

Pluto’s retrograde is a great time for inner reflection, and an opportunity to kick-start positive changes. What changes will you be looking to make?
