If you’re starting to clue into the fact that your life is pretty much an exact mirror of your thoughts and beliefs, then your next logical conclusion is to make some shift happen – some belief shift, that is.

The question is, how do you change limiting beliefs if they’re so embedded that you might not even know they’re there? Well, this is where bright ideas (or in this case, a very specific I.D.E.A.) comes in handy. Let’s have a look …

I is for Identify

The first thing you have to do in order to change a limiting belief is to identify it and name it. Until you see what the problem is, you can’t do anything about it. And how do you identify it? Just look at what’s showing up in your life that makes you feel, well, limited.

D is for Detach

Once you’ve identified and named a limiting belief, it’s time to remember this: YOU are not your beliefs. You have to detach from the belief itself, and from the false idea that what you believe makes you who you are. If you can give yourself a little emotional space from a belief instead of identifying with it, you put yourself in a much more powerful position – in fact, the only position – you can be in to take the next step, which is …

E is for Examine

Become like a curious scientist and examine this limiting belief from a place of detached awareness. Ask yourself

  • Where did this belief first come from?
  • How did it once help or benefit me?
  • Have I been getting any secondary gains from the belief?
  • Why did I think I needed to hold onto it after its ‘use by’ date?

Once you’ve gotten answers to these questions, thank the belief for any ways that it had originally helped you, then send it back to source. Set yourself free!

A is for Activate

The next and most important part of this grand I.D.E.A. is to activate a new belief in place of the old one. (Hint: the new belief will likely be the mirror opposite of the old one.)
here’s an example

  • Old belief: “The people I love always leave me.”
  • New belief: “I AM love, and therefore I surround myself with lasting love.”

So there you have it – the big, bright I.D.E.A. for how to change limiting beliefs. Give it a try then leave us a comment. We want to know what the original belief was, what you found out when you detached and examined it, and what you activated in its pace.

This is just what I needed to read today, as I was challenged last night and my limiting belief about my self worth on a academic level came up and I did not know what to do about it, thank you. Helena

      Hey Helena!

What do you believe about your self worth on a academic level?
That you are not good enough?
Or maybe that you need wild academic success in order to be good enough?
      Or maybe both?
      Or maybe something else?

Limiting beliefs can take over your life. Congratulations for challenging them!
