“Who me!?” You scoff. “I don’t have any limiting beliefs!” Well maybe, or maybe not. More subtle and sometimes more insidious than most of us imagine, thoughts that undermine you are more common than you may realise. So with this in mind, the FinerMinds Team thought we’d offer you a short post with some of the more subtle – but equally as unproductive – examples of limiting beliefs as, say, an obvious one like “I suck.”
We’ll keep it short, because peace of mind and insight are the goals here, not a diatribe of negitude :) Ready? here we go …
1. The Power is Outside of You
Even some of the most positive folks have a tendency to attribute their circumstances – good or bad – to external forces. Here are a few examples:
- As soon as I find a better job I’ll …
- If s/he would just …
- I only wish I could … but my (job, spouse, kids …)
2. You’re not Enough
These examples of limiting beliefs have to do with what you think you need to have, learn or do before you can be, do or have what you want. Here’s a few to jog your memory (if you’re still in denial about your own limiting beliefs ;))
- As soon as I finish …
- If I go back and get my Master’s then maybe …
- If only I was more …
- Once I … then I can really go for my dreams!
3. Born under a Rotten Star
This is the new-age version of #1 above. Instead of blaming physical, measurable circumstances, the metaphysical world is the reason for your limited circumstances. Do any of these sound familiar?
- It’s because I’m a (insert astrological sign here), or …
- I guess we don’t get along because Taurus and Scorpio aren’t compatible.
- In a past life I was an … so now I have to learn to deal with …
- My psychic told me I wouldn’t be able to … until …
- Aghh! Mercury is in retrograde!!
4. Your Turn!
Did any of these examples jog your memory? What’s a limiting belief that you’re ready to now give the ‘heave-ho’? Leave a comment and let us know.
