Looking a little grey? Feeling blue? Seeing red? Simple fact: Colors influence our emotions and have the ability to reduce or increase the intensity of our emotions.
The Chinese Art of Placement (think objects, colors, symbols), otherwise known as Feng Shui, has long placed importance on the use of color to bring harmony and balance in our lives.
Whether you want to focus on balancing the energy in your home or workspace, changing the color of your walls and furnishings can provide a quick, easy and cost effective way to improve the vibrations in your space.
Inducing a particular vibration or energy with a splash of color may give you the kick start you need to get creative juices going or help you unwind after a long day. Here’re a few suggestions on the power of color:
Blue: Represents blessings. Blue is a calming, peaceful color – particularly good for meditation and contemplation. Good for the area of your home that you go when you “take-five”.
White: Reflects spirituality and moral purity (think here comes the bride…). This color is literally a blank canvas that allows you to reach a level of peace whilst also allowing you to follow your thoughts.
Purple: Often associated with wisdom, wealth and creativity. Purple can be used in a study area to invoke creativity; it is a combination of cooling blue and dynamic red, so vary the shade for the vibrations you want to raise.
Black: Although not usually considered a lucky color, but when used in balance with other colors, it can absorb negative chi. Black or dark blue are best for the career/study area of your home, so try some black furnishings with a purple wall perhaps?
Orange: Considered an auspicious color in many cultures, orange is also very “sociable”. Vibrant orange hues are an excellent Feng Shui choice for areas which you want to get playful in!
