Mercury in retrograde

Have you been finding it particularly difficult to work the last few days (well, more than usual!) due to unexplainable issues with your computer or situations just not going to plan? Or perhaps your travel plans have fallen into chaos – despite careful planning on your behalf?

If you’re curiously nodding to any of the above, you may be relieved to know that you’re not just having “one of those weeks” or going mad, but you’re actually feeling the strange effects of mercury in retrograde, which started on 15 July and will continue until 8 August.

Mercury Is Doing What, You Say?

Mercury goes into retrograde three times a year when it starts spinning backwards, meaning that despite being known for its intelligent and truthful qualities in the zodiac, this backward spin renders some of these powers to a standstill. The ripple effect for us mere mortals on distant Earth is that we can expect things to be a little off kilter.

For example, you may find that your computer crashes, you keep missing appointments, your travel plans fall through due to delays and disruptions or you just can’t seem to please anyone. Star signs ruled by mercury, Virgo and Gemini, are more susceptible to mercury’s temporary mood swing, and will be the signs experiencing the biggest frustrations (and moaning the most!). If you work in industries ruled by mercury, such as the travel industry, sales, writing and publishing you too will be finding life more challenging during this period.

Therefore, if you happen to be a Virgo and a writer….like myself, you may feel like the universe is against you (and for once, this is somewhat true!). Or in my circumstance, feel that technology has become the enemy after a day of technical issues concluding with my internet also going into retrograde, turning back in time to when it didn’t work (which coincidentally happened at the start of the retrograde!).

Can You Avoid This Cosmic Clash?

Mercury Retrograde - Unlucky? In short, no you can’t. Although, while this may seem like a particularly unlucky time, it has it’s positives as it actually forces us to slow down and review what needs mending in our lives. Perhaps you’re missing those appointments because your diary is in your head, and not your calendar? Therefore, use this opportunity to complete those personal tasks you’ve been putting off.

Although during this time, it isn’t ideal to be making drastic changes, as given the uncertainty looming in the air, these plans may not come to fruition. This can also be applied to those in relationships – as break ups which occur during retrograde may only be temporary – so a word of warning, be careful how you react to this unfortunate news!

The retrograde is also a time where you may find things you thought you had lost, or to bump into old friends which you haven’t seen in years. It’s a time to make amends where relationships have run into problems, or to finally bite the bullet and declare your love if you’ve been waiting for that moment.

Therefore, do your best to roll with the punches and turn your energy to looking to what the universe is trying to tell you. Even though you may not appreciate the initial message, slow down and reflect on the message, as this often paves the way for greater outcomes, wouldn’t you agree?
