Aha, here’s a cool piece of news. Science has proven what we meditation-lovers always knew – that meditation reduces pain. Yup. A recent article published by the Science Daily from the Journal of Neuroscience has found that there’s:
“about a 40 percent reduction in pain intensity and a 57 percent reduction in pain unpleasantness. Meditation produced a greater reduction in pain than even morphine or other pain-relieving drugs, which typically reduce pain ratings by about 25 percent…Meditation significantly reduces brain activity in the primary somatosensory cortex, an area that is crucially involved in creating the feeling of where and how intense a painful stimulus is. The scans taken before meditation training showed activity in this area was very high. However, when participants were meditating during the scans, activity in this important pain-processing region could not be detected.”
This awesome discovery proves that everyone should be learning how to meditate. And if you’re already meditating, you could enlighten others with this great knowledge. Be it a child or an adult, we should learn to heal ourselves with less (or none whatsoever) help from drugs. And science has finally agreed that this is possible. Meditation heals us and brings us closer to inner peace. So why not make it part of your daily life?
Now here’s an intriguing thought. What if we introduced meditation classes into our education system? What impacts do you think it’ll give our society? Share your comments with us below. We’d love to know what you think.
