Looking for a free meditation that’ll get your day going? Here’s a great one to do first thing in the morning – or anytime you need an energy boost. Warning: you’ll have to Listen Up to do it right.

1. Not too Comfy
Sit in a comfortable position that’s not soo comfy you’re likely to fall asleep :) You should be able to sit still in this position for about 10 minutes.
2. Center Yourself
Now just take 3-4 deep breaths, paying attention to each breath as you do and bringing your awareness to the present moment.
3. Listen Up!
Now you’re going to bring your attention to any and all sounds you hear around and within you. Just start to notice what you hear. You don’t need to name or define the sounds. Just observe them.
4. Challenge Yourself
Challenge yourself to hear as many sounds – near and far, loud and soft – as possible. Really pay attention. Think of how much attention you’d give to a strange sound in your car driving down the road, or the noise of someone coming into your house in the middle of the night -use that kind of full and total attention.
5. Pull Back
Now pull back and begin to listen to the sounds not as separate, discrete and disconnected noises, but as a kind of symphony of your NOW moment. See if you can hear the ‘music’ of this moment.
6. Come’on Out!
Take 3 more deep breaths, affirming that on the third breath, you’ll remain mentally relaxed yet aware, and fully energized.
