Psychologist and author Christopher Ryan has an opinion about people and marriages in this day and age. In this video, by one of our favorite brain-tickling YouTube channels, Big Think, he plays on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution to rationalize infidelity in marriages. He stresses that perhaps general culture’s response to the “natural behavior” of human and sex sparks off more trouble than resolutions.
We’d like you to watch this four-minute video on Christopher’s argument and share with us your thoughts, and whether you agree or disagree with his views. Here’s an excerpt from his interview to entice you further:
“The point of marriage is that you want to get old with someone. You want to share your life with someone. Maybe you want to raise children with someone. You want to have a certain stability and trust that you couldn’t possibly get with short-term relationships. That’s the point of marriage. And by imposing this expectation of sexual exclusivity for 40, 50, 60 years, we’re cutting ourselves off from those really important things for something that’s essentially trivial.”
