We are seven days away from the start of Jon Gabriel’s 6-week online Body Transformation Journey, the holistic approach to weight loss, or as I’d like to see it – teaching myself how to appreciate, nourish and accept my body. It’s still a notion that I can’t get my head around, particularly because never in my life had I imagined that I would one day meditate my way into the body I want.
The last time I experienced a visualization exercise with Jon was through his webinar three weeks ago, and though his team has been sending me encouraging reminders and advice since then, I have to admit, I was slowly starting to lose steam as I found myself sinking back into my routines.
But having said that, I do find myself more conscious of how my body works and my food choices. Not that I’ve been restricting myself, but I’m able to distinguish between a craving and actual hunger, and I always know when to stop. It’s a mind frame that reminds me of something my pilates instructor often repeats in his class – “Read your body’s feedback. It’s communicating with you.”
Thankfully, last weekend Jon treated us with a free Daytime Visualization Exercise in the form of a 13-minute audio, as “the perfect starting point to your mind-body transformation.” The exercise is meant to reprogram me on a subconscious level, so that my mind and body can start switching off my Fat Triggers. It’s actually similar to the one he demonstrated in his webinar, but the great thing is that I get to download and save the track, and listen to it whenever and wherever I want.
“I’d like for you to imagine, that there’s a ball of light circulating around your navel. Maybe the size of a large baseball. And this ball of light is spinning around. As it’s spinning around, it’s getting brighter and brighter and brighter,” he begins. The entire track features Jon narrating the visualization in his deep voice (fortunately he has a pleasant voice – phew!) with a calming and soothing background music, the combination of which envelops you in silence and solitude.
As he continues on, the ball of light travels up my spine, one vertebrae a time. “So your whole spine and pelvis, from the navel down, is glowing with a beautiful, bright, white, light.”
Let me remind you again that I’m pretty much new to meditation (let alone a visualization exercise), but having listened to the track only twice the past two mornings, despite my clumsy attempt to elevate myself into focus, it has had a positive effect on me. I feel more energised and lighter afterwards (not physically), but that daunting, dreadful anticipation of the day’s tasks has lessened, and I haven’t found myself hungry or eating for the sake of fulfilling a momentary crave.
I’m going to listen to this Daytime Visualization Exercise every morning until July 24th, which is when my journey with the Gabriel Code begins. Then it will be 6-weeks of live online coaching with Jon himself, more visualization sessions and even a recipe book that he wrote – no, not a diet plan – but food my body will enjoy, appreciate and benefit from.
Here’s to great, permanent change through a holistic, mind-based weight loss program. As the saying goes – the results speak for itself. So let’s see if they will have something to say to me, and the rest of us who are embarking on the Body Transformation Journey!
