According to Michael Norton – Associate Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School – happiness can be bought, and it doesn’t have to cost a bomb!
You may have heard of lottery winners who became debt-ridden, anti-social and unhappy, BUT don’t let their stories taint your ability to purchase some happiness (or fantasize about winning the lottery!).
To prove the theory that happiness can be bought, Michael headed a simple experiment that involved giving two groups of people envelopes containing cash, but with different instructions – the first group was told to spend it on themselves, and the second was asked to spend it on someone else. Which group of spenders do you think felt happier?
Michael presents a very entertaining talk on the benefits of becoming a “pro-social” spender and how it can make you a very, very happy person so check out the video below. Let us know what you think and also share what you would do with your money if you ever won the lottery!
