It’s all about intrinsic value. What are you putting value in? It is your new handbag? That new electronic device that does the same thing as the last one? The point of consumerism is to make life easier, but the truth is, materialism has a high cost in society. Given the strangle hold that brands and advertising have on the addictive elements of the mind, materials often become a big problem especially when the money isn’t there. We need to move to a place as a society and individuals where we got back to valuing things like family, time with friends and experiencing the immense happiness that exists outside of inanimate objects.
This video shows all of the psychological, sociological and humanistic downsides to living a life of materialism. The video is free, but the change’s you need to make may come at a cost.
Enjoy!
