According to a breakthrough study from John Hopkins University, the biggest risk of students dropping out of school can be identified as early as middle school through a few key factors – poor attendance, unsatisfactory behavior and course failure in math and English. These factors derive from a simple explanation – the students lack mentors who can inspire them to stay in school. And with only one teacher to thirty students, there’s only so much a teacher can do to provide mentorship to everyone.
That’s how City Youth came into the picture. They’re out to encourage young volunteers from various backgrounds to give a full year of service as tutors, mentors, and role models to transform the experience of middle school kids across America. This awesome movement speaks that youth should inspire youth. And we can’t help but agree on that…
