Familiar with the saying “Those who can do, those who can’t teach”?
Well, Taylor Mali is on a mission to boot that saying to the curb. Having taught for 9 years, Taylor, a poet, is today a vocal advocate for teachers and the teaching profession. Using his poetry, persuasion and perseverance, Taylor started the New Teacher Project in order to inspire 1,000 people to become teachers.
Finally after 12 years of campaigning, this remarkable man managed to recruit a thousand people to do so, and we salute him for that! The video below is the most recent version of Taylor’s famous poem “What Teachers Make” and we’d like to share it with you as we have a lot of respect for the noble profession.
Taylor’s dedication and persistence has changed the public perception of the teaching profession for the better. What teachers make cannot be quantified in monetary terms, but it can be seen in the role they play in shaping our children’s lives and how they develop into young adults.
So if you’ve been sitting there wondering what exactly you’re good at or how you can help inspire others, check out his powerful poem to see whether you have it in you to teach…
