“There’s never been a better time to be an entrepreneur,” says Ted Leonsis, founder, chairman, majority owner, and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment (which owns and operates the Washington Capitals (NHL), Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Mystics (WNBA) and Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C.)
Because the economy presently seem weak, he goes on to say, folks believe it’s counter productive to think that entrepreneurism is alive and well. But, he says, the tools to create and launch a business and take advantage of all the digital platforms that are available are “just enormously ubiquitous right now.” It’s a very encouraging time for young people, especially, who have lived their lives on the Internet, to take advantage of Angel networks and to locate startup venture capital companies.
Ted advises against starting a company just to make money and to focus, instead, on producing a product or service that will improve the overall quality of life or bring a business process to as large a swath of the population as possible. It’ takes a combination of expertise, capital, and mentoring to contribute to great success and great companies.
So there you have it, words from an expert’s mouth that right now is EXACTLY the right time to launch whatever venture it is that you’ve been contemplating on. So share with us, what entrepreneurial initiatives are you hoping to start in 2012?
